| Summary: | This paper aims to analyze the current global crisis in democracy through Chantal Mouffe’s agonistic point of view. First, it presents not just the belgian thinker's critique of the deliberative democratic model but also the fundamentals of the alternative model that she proposes. The idea is to oppose Mouffe's reflections about the dimensions of the "political" and the role of passions to dogmatic visions about the political polarization. Then, it examines the left-populism, a political strategy proposed by Mouffe in front of the political moment. This kind of populism, unlike the authoritarian and ultranationalist one that rises today, does not adopt a conception of people that excludes some social groups. Preserving a rhetorical ethics, it aims to expand the democratic project and to break with the neoliberal order. In sequence, the discussion follows the national scope. In order to evaluate Mouffe's diagnostic, it resumes the political events that led to the brazilian crisis and to Bolsonaro's victory in 2018. |
