| Resumo: | In this article we will trace the decisions and the trajectory of Dom Ireneu Penna’s life who, in the late 60's, based on what Georges Papy proposed, reformulated the teaching methods in Mathematics at Colégio de São Bento, in Rio de Janeiro city. We establish some relations of Dom Ireneu’s social milieu and focus on those we think are directly connected to the reform headed by this benedictin monk at Colégio de São Bento during the New Math movement. Among the sources used in this work we highlight the personal data found in his "Nachlass", testimonies and catholic movements' journals of the time. |
