Sumario:This work had the objective to evaluate the program of adoption of dogs at the cityof Ibiúna-SP. For its fulfillment, dogs were adopted directly to the official kennel ofIbiúna, with selection of future owners. Visits were made without previous notice tothe owners to evaluate the conditions of the animal health. After a minimum periodof three months after adoption, it was applied a questionnaire to all owners. Theobjective was evaluate reasons for adoption, adaptation of dog in the home andowner, difficulties demonstrated and sanitary conditions and health of animal. Inthe period evaluated, 63 dogs were adopted, represented 10,21% of all removedand the majority were males. More of 90% owners had a good and very goodadaptation with the dog. The motives of adoption had centralization in to likeanimals for 80,64% of interviewed. Disease was the major difficulty. The sanitaryconditions in the animals were located in the homes were nearly in the totality invery good and good, represented success in the adoptions.
