| Sumario: | This paper introduces linguistic and cognitive aspects involved in reading processing. As for the linguistic factors, we highlight the following processing levels: phonological, orthographic, morphosyntactic, semantic and pragmatic, providing examples and citing Brazilian conducting research in each one of these levels. Regarding the cognitive processing, we lay out the most prominent reading strategies, such as the bottom up, top down and integrative ones. Furthermore, we emphasize the intimate relationship between reading comprehension and memory, as well as the role of previous knowledge and text features in the construction of knowledge. |
