description Based on the theoretical-methodological assumptions of Variationist Sociolinguistics (WEINREICH; LABOV; HERZOG, 2006 [1968]; LABOV, 2008[1972]; SCHERRE, 1988; OUSHIRO, 2015; TEIXEIRA, 2017), this paper proposed to investigate the linguistic and social factors that correlate to perform of nominal number agreement in simple Nominal Phrases, such as the ministerØ “os ministro” and the ministers “os ministros”, in Portuguese spoken in Bacabal, Maranhão. Twelve sociolinguistic interviews conducted with speakers from that city were analyzed, stratified according to their sex, age and level of education. The noun phrases were analyzed from an atomistic perspective, which considers each element of the noun phrase as analysis data separately (the / ministerØ). The results of the logistic regression analysis, carried out in the R program (R CORE TEAM, 2019), show that the level of education and age of the speakers are the social factors that correlate to the variable on screen. Regarding linguistic variables, only the nuclear element tonicity variable was not significant.

Foram analisadas 12 entrevistas sociolinguísticas realizadas com falantes dessa cidade, estratificados de acordo com seu sexo, sua faixa etária e sua escolaridade. Os Sintagmas Nominais foram analisados sob a perspectiva atomística, que considera como dado de análise cada elemento do Sintagma Nominal de forma isolada (os/ ministro). Os resultados da análise de regressão logística, feita no programa R (R CORE TEAM, 2019), evidenciam que a escolaridade e a faixa etária dos falantes são as variáveis sociais que se correlacionam ao fenômeno em tela.
