Descripción
Sumario:The article analyzes some questions about the narrative disputes on spirituality in the therapeutic communities (TCs) field. The data come from a bibliographical survey, document analysis, and semi-structured interviews carried out with representatives of TCs’ federations and women assisted in a religious TC. Among our main conclusions, we found the existence of tensions regarding the understanding of the State and the representatives of TCs’ federations about what should be the place and use of spirituality in the TCs care model. Furthermore, the statements of the interviewed women reveal that the institutionally preached faith is not always aligned with the faith experiences of these women during their stay in the TC. Finally, the claim of the TCs to maintain spirituality as part of their service demonstrates how fundamental it is to the preservation of the identity of these institutions.
