Summary:Table Tennis and Ping Pong are both similar table games, which differences derived from historical course of these practices. What is the relation between the Table Tennis practice and Ping-Pong in Porto Alegre, in decades of 1940 and 1950? Thought a bibliographic review and documentary analysis of sources printed it was proven that in 1900 Ping Pong´s brand come out by patent registration of the game, which name extended over different countries, coming to Brazil and Rio Grande do Sul state through European immigrants. In Porto Alegre, it had the diffusion of the practical one of the Ping pong in the clubs from the decade of 1940, on the same period that the Tennis of table. However, the Ping pong was played with rules differentiated of the ones of the Tennis of Table.
