Two questionnaires were applied to collect information on the identity and attitude towards their native language in people of different ages. The results obtained indicate that Quechua is generally spoken by the elderly, specifically in those over 60 years; consequently, it is threatened and dominated by the growing castellanization in the area of Pontó (Ancash), a similar aspect that occurs in most South American countries with respect to their native languages.El presente artículo, que deriva de la tesis de maestría en Lingüística realizada en la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, tiene como finalidad identificar la relación que existe entre la identidad y actitud de los pobladores bilingües del distrito de Pontó, provincia de Huari, región Áncash, sobre el proceso de extinción de la lengua quechua. Se aplicaron dos cuestionarios para recoger información sobre la identidad y actitud respecto a su lengua originaria en los pobladores de diversas edades.
